Why are Canadians stimulus checks bigger than USA stimulus checks?

Update:

$2,000 for 6 months is quite a bit of money versus a one time $1,200, or second time $1,200.

The Canadian dollar is only worth 74 cents US. In addition there is a combined VAT sales tax of over 15%.

Trudeau knows what people need; trump doesn't care about anyone but himself. Canadians pay higher taxes, but when something like this happens or when they get sick, they don't go bankrupt.

Because Canada has a heart of gold.

Because Canada cares more about its citizens.  In the US we call that 'socialism'.

One reason is $1.00 Canadian is only worth $0.74 US, so $2,000 Canadian is only $1,480 US, making the difference between the two stimulus payment amounts only $280 US, which is easily within the margin of error of daily fluctuations of currency valuation.

But I suppose that's sophistry. The reality is, the differing amounts are based on differing political and economic factors and differing objectives. Comparing what Canada decided to do and what the US decided to do is comparing apples to oranges because those decisions pertain to two different economies involving two different societies needing different things led by different elected officials meaning to achieve different objectives.

The Canadian leader actually tries to help his people instead of rage tweeting and protecting statues of traitors 150 years ago.

Their Prime Minister actually cares about his citizens.
