Christians, why did God create billions of planets and galaxies in the universe?
We live in a universe with billions of planets and galaxies. My question is why did God create them when it makes no difference to our salvation and what purpose do they serve?

Not a Christian, but either way we know for a fact that no celestial objects (stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets..etc) are magically created. We see star systems being born and dying in the hundreds of thousands using space bound telescopes.
It's not a theory with tiny bits of evidence. It's a repeatedly observed fact.

Would you ask an artist why he paints so many paintings, or a stone carver why he creates so many statues, or a musician why he writes so many songs, or an author why he writes so many books?

As far as I see it. There is only one. Why is it called a planet if there isn't life on it? Or is there? Why is Earth even called a planet? To take your focus on Earth away. That's probably why. For those who are lost to keep searching.

There is a school of thought within, and external as well, to Christianity called Process theology. It states that "creation" is still occurring as stars, planets, etc are being formed, aging and dying. The same may be said of life in its many forms and manifestations. We don't have full understanding as to how all the universe affects us as a species, but we should face the fact that it may not be all about us. There may be other beings in the universe as well.

To make it appear that every. thiing has existed ,, and will pretty. much remain so . So we won't be affraid to leave our mother's. lap for. fear God. will punish us if we said something bad . He lets us grow to eventually see that there must be a loving God.

To visibly show us how big and powerful he is. The universe has neither center nor edge. Like God himself, its infinite.
Psalm 19:1 KJV — To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
He wants us to think of him every time we gaze up at the heavens. We here do.

Well, why stop at a million when you can do a billion? After all, it takes a vast universe to give rise to all the elements needed to create life. And the Creator is not known for being stingy. He over-abounds in generosity as proven by the gloriously rich, diverse and massive provisions on planet Earth, fully stocked for the first humans to benefit from.

Gee, maybe He didn't create the universe just for us? And who knows how many beloved children God might have on some of those billions of other planets?

As homes for his human children. He has placed his human children on countless worlds.
But notice that we put mobiles over our babies' cribs even when we have no intention that they should reach them. We have to give them something to reach for. God is the same.
