she was in the back of a car driven by a drunk chaeffer. Pararazzi were chasing them, then there was a crash. Diana was not wearing a seat belt. I believe this is event is why Harry moved abroad.

The man who was driving Diana's car was drunk and he was speeding. He was going about 65 mph when he crashed the car head-on into a concrete pillar.

Also, Diana wasn't wearing a seat belt. The doctors and crash examiners believe that there's every possibility that she could have survived the crash, if she had been.

She died of blunt force trauma to her chest.  Because she wasn't wearing a seat belt, she was thrown against the back of the passenger seat in front of her. The force of the impact when she hit the seat in front broke her rib cage, tore the left pulmonary artery leading to her heart, and actually displaced her heart's position inside her chest.

When the driver hit the pillar and the car came to a sudden stop, Diana herself was still traveling at 65 mph.
