How is Roger Staubach so rich?

He's worth $600 million even though he never made more than $160,000 in salary and had a short career because of his military service.

Nowadays guys make millions of dollars and blow through it before they even finish playing.

At least we know he didn't sell out his country in order to enrich himself like Obama and Biden have done.

Texas (mainly Dallas area) real estate

  • Started a Real Estate company and focused on deals with Fortune 500 companies (helps when you have his reputation).  His Real Estate company  was sold to Jones Lang Lasalle for just over US$600mm which netted him a sizable chunk of money.  He married early and very much made the right choice (the closest comparable is Jack Nicklaus who's been married over 55 years to his wife Barbara) on that front.

From 1970 - 1977, he worked for the Henry S. Miller Company during the off season. In 1977, he started his own commercial real estate company.

He got into Dallas real estate at the right time....And after the OIL BUST Staubach had tenants who were NOT in the OIL business so his space remained full allowing him to buy MORE real estate....Hard a$$ work combined with a little luck. And after after he sold his share of the real estate biz for $ 100 M they kept him on as an'executive' CEO because he was worth every penny.

Source(s): And $ 100 million in real estate in 2008 is probably worth the $ 600 M figure in 2016 $ after the great Democrat recession - that you provided.

Real estate. In 1970-1977 in his off-seasons, he worked in a real estate business, and in 1977 he started his own with a partner, who he bought out in 1982. The Staubach Company has worked with major businesses like AT&T, McDonald's, K Mart Corporation, and the Hospital Corporation of America and also ownership stakes in projects such as 27 different apartment complexes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In 2007, he stepped down as CEO of his company and on July 11, 2008, The Staubach Company was sold to Jones Lang LaSalle for $613 million.
