What happens to the photons when I switch off the light?

    they may bounce off of walls a few times or a few thousand times, but eventually get absorbed by materials they hit and get converted to thermal energy.

    they could bounce off the walls a million times, but that takes only a tiny fraction of a second and will not be observed by the eye.
