Why is it that, when you fall asleep, you don't realize you feel asleep until you wake up later on?

Because when you’re asleep your brain is not thinking direct attention-based thoughts. It’s why dreams are so scattered.

Because your brain blacks out as it falls asleep

In most cases, consciousness is shut down during sleep to allow brain to rest and process short-term memory from the previous day.

Exceptions are so-called lucid dreams during which the dreamer is aware that he's dreaming. In lucid dreams, the dreamer can also have some degree of control over events and characters within the dream.

Is that really the best you can do to seem relevant?
