It is on the 10th  Zul Hijjah  of Islamic Calendar to celebrate the great event of the Muslims all over the world for those who perform Hajj and complete their Hajj ritual by sacrificing animals for the remembrance of Abraham and Ishmael his son (May GOD be pleased with both of them) as according to GOD's commandment.

It is DIE ul adha, because millions of animals are slaughtered senselessly,  It is a ritual of death.

Yes, Eid Al Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice is the second Eid and equally as important as Eid Al Fitr. It is a time for the giving of food to the poor and needy and reminds Muslims of the willingness of Ibrahim (as) to sacrifice his son, Ismael (as) to demonstrate his obedience to Allah (swt). Of course Allah (swt), the All Knowing and All Wise, knew that He would ultimately decline this offering as Ismael (as) was to become the pivotal point in the beginning of Islam itself, i.e. It was from Ismael's (as) line that Islam would eventually come, through The Prophet Muhammad (saw) and in fulfilment of the promise made to his mother, Hagar, May Allah (swt) be most pleased with her.

Monir, you will have to change your answer slightly as Ismael (as) was not sacrificed by his father another offering appeared in the form of a ram otherwise Islam would never have happened.

Anonycritic ... why does the feeding of the poor and needy put you off Islam? If there were more Muslims perhaps there would be less starvation in the world?

We are soooo sorry we are not as selfish and greedy as you people?

Festival involving the sacrifice of an animal, commemorating Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael, and the kind of thing that puts a lot of people off Islam.
