Does my neighbor wifi need to show up on my laptop?

I’ve recently moved into a three floors house . But I don’t have internet and am thinking of asking my neighbor from the 3rd floor to share their wifi and we’d split half the bill, you know. However, in order to do that should their wifi show up when I’m searching the wifi list in my laptop?

It will show if it is in range. Otherwise not. Just go to wifi router and check list again.

Generally, yes. That ensures your PC can see it to login.

It doesn't need to actually show up, as long as it is in range. Wi-fi access points can disable their SSID broadcast, making a sort of "hidden" network that you can still connect to if you know the SSID.

If they haven't disabled their SSID broadcast, though, it means the signal is not strong enough or not compatible with your equipment.
