Generally you should stay up to date on things, even if you have hardened other things.

If you have a current anti-virus package, it is OK to have older versions of other things.  Not wise, but it would be relatively OK.

Having an out-of-date anti-virus package, on the other hand, is TOTALLY not OK.

sure. as long as you don't plan on visiting any websites that are constantly adding new features, like Facebook...

No, as this will just screw up your computer.

Depends on the browser.  Microsoft does not frequently update its browsers.  IE is only at version 11.  Five versions back would make it IE 6 which would be from the late 1990s and useless today.  (IE 8 is the oldest version most web sites will recognize.)

While Chrome and Firefox tend to update their browsers every month or two.  Five versions back on one of them would only be 4 to 6 months back.  You probably would not notice the difference.

Usually when they do an update it is to deal with some kind of a bug or security flaw in the system.  Usually it does not add a lot of features or anything.  For security reasons you should keep your browser up to date.  Chrome and Firefox both automatically update themselves.

Only if you don't mind having many websites not work or display correctly.
