Why didn't anybody give John Brown's idea any credence?
Set up a provisional state for escaped slaves. West Virginia to be exact. After the raid on Harper's Ferry.

Slavery is bad. He stood against this evilness. So why isn't he honored more and criminalized along with his ideas. But slavers have statues and their ideas are carried forth for GENERATIONS....👁️

He was charged with treason, murder, and conspiring with slaves to rebel. He was convicted and sentenced to death. Before his sentencing, Brown told the court that his actions against slavery were consistent with God's commandments. He lost credibility when he crossed the line as a criminal. However, he makes a good case for separating church and state.

The American revolutionary colonists actions were illegal, Hitler's actions were legal.
MLK advocated peaceful means to a goal. Malcolm X advocated more aggressive activism to the same goal. King is honored as the hero.
This is the first time I read the preamble you submitted. Those were powerful words in 1858. He should have stayed the course on the "podium" and gone into politics.

No one gave him credence for the simple reason...he was too early and too radical. 'Timing can be everything'... had he said and wrote what he did in 1863/64 instead of 1859 he would be remembered and acclaimed a 'hero' along with Lincoln...but he was just a little too soon.
In the Civil War documentary series by Ken Burns, John Brown is called a 'blazing comet' that showed the way then died. Others in history have compared him to John the Baptist (another 'crazy' man with a long beard) who was the blazing comet who died before Christ.
I think the public schools and all schools should teach and be dedicated to the truth in history....but in 1859 the powers that be, wanted to keep the lid on the percolating / bubbling slavery issue at least till the 1860 election. John Brown messed this up for them, so they killed him and then spun a false narrative of a out of control 'cult guy', a traitor against a state (wasn't even his state).
Modern school teachers only repeat and teach the...spun cover story...about Brown. It's not racist, they just don't care. For most of the them they get paid to teach what the textbook says and if they try and vary and tell real history (Brown was a hero) they'll get fired (not over Brown, but varying from the text).
P.S. In the great Civil War fought to free the slaves, the US (Union) troops had a marching song...John Brown's spirit goes marching on....
Modern day (2020) historians should rehabilitate him as the hero and martyr he was.

John Brown died 4 years before WV was a state.

Brown was hanged in 1859, West Virginia wasn't a state until 1863.
