Can a conservative please explain how it's possible to have a small government and a big military?

Because the military is part of the government, so by increasing the military, you're increasing the government

  • The military should be small but that will never happen. With both parties supporting

a large standing military even during peace times

We shouldn't be involved in nation building, move in and get the job done and get out, no need for hand holding or helping them.

I don't define as a conservative, but a government can be small and have a big military at the same time. Let's just say one government controls health care (meaning everything from physical to mental health and so on), oil industry, railway services, banks and so on... All those add up to more employees than what you would usually have in a military.

So if a conservative say they want smaller government it can mean cutting down in many different industries.

The military is the only thing our Federal government is required to do. It is why we decided to have a federal government at all. Together we stand, divided we fall was the slogan.

Currently it accounts for less than 15% of our national budget.

Not a conservative, but trump defunded the military to pay for wall. This why bases in other countries have been closing.

Why don’t you first give your opinion why it isn’t possible.
