How is Borderline Personality Disorder developed?

Update:

My brother's ex had it and her mother was very unaffectionate to the point of showing up late to her own daughter's wedding. She, the ex, wouldn't speak to her father so no idea what he was like except that her siblings stayed in touch with him.

Throughout the marriage it was "one strike your out" with people except her mother and siblings. When my brother lost a job she fired him and the marriage was over. There were problems leading up to that with her instability.

Update 2:

How does this develop though?

Typically from some severe trauma at a young age that causes a core fracture. But it can also be genetic.
