Some are more strict then others on what one uses to write with.  When i was high school, almost everything had to be typed.

Because kindergarten was a long time ago. Your high school English teacher feels you've had more than ample time to have mastered the ink pen.

How can you seriously 'write' with a wax crayon? They are thick, you could only get a few dozen words onto a page.

You have to remember somebody has to read these assignments and they don't want to be stuck to the pages with wax crayon. Most teachers would regard that sort of presentation as subversive.

Nobody above the age of six writes in crayon.

Because all teachers are different. How come some students won't accept a failing grade for writing in crayon when others will?

Possibly because the teachers who accept assignments in crayon are kindergarten teachers, and those who don't aren't.

It is up to each teacher.  If challenged, i'm not sure the principal would accept the crayon.
