How do you solve this physics question?

A skier leaves a horizontal ski jump with a horizontal velocity of 23.1 m/s. The instant before she

lands 2.96 seconds later, determine her speed.

Update:

according to the answer key the answer is 37.1m/s I need someone to show me how to get that answer.

    Presumably we ignore air resistance, Not a very good approximation for a ski jumper who generally tries to become a wing to generate lift and stay in the air longer.

    v = √(vx² + vy²)

    v = √(23.1² + (2.96(9.81))²)

    v = √(23.1² + 29.0²)

    v = 37.0757...≈ 37.1 m/s

    Ski jumpers also do not land on level ground - the impact would kill them. They land on a steep slope well below the level of the take-off ramp. They then ski down to a gradually reducing slope, then level ground where they can stop safely.

    I assume that all of those factors were taken into account by the person who set the question.

    V = √23.1^2+(9.806*2.96)^2 = 37.10 m/sec
