Ya know...Yahoo gives you a TON of room to tack on additional DETAILS.  Plus a picture would've been really helpful.

    1) Quick release skewer, through axle as found a lot of bikes today with disc brakes or is it held on with nuts - the old school way still sadly found on a lot of cheap discount store bikes?

    2) Why is the wheel off in the first place?  Is it a new wheel, or the factory wheel you took off - possibly due to fixing a flat?

    3) Having problems getting the chain to fall into the right place on the cogset?  Details!  Details!  Details!  You supplied NO DETAILS!

You put the rear hub axle in the rear frame dropouts. Let's ask a question while providing very vague information about the bicycle. There's lots of "How To" videos on YouTube. If you still can't figure it out go to a reputable bicycle shop.
