Question about tennis racquet technology?

Approximately how long ago did the racquet technology really start to change and the strings started to change so that the players can hit with so much more power and control now than before?

Update:

I was talking about the last 15 years. Technology has really moved on since then. But I know 3dberg and Sampras were using Wilson pro staff in the 90s and late 80s. I'm talking the much more recent technology that allows players to hit the ball so consistently hard these days.

Composite materials ar a tremendous upgrade over wood or metal including alloy.

They might seem old-school compared to what's available now, but have a look at

Wilson Hyper Hammer or Head TI (titanium) compared to those from the 70s or 80s.

Source(s): I've been playing tennis for over twenty years.
