I do it because it feels good and I hate how scabs look.

Because they're not naturally there and it's annoying having a crusty bump on your skin

You may absently pick at a scab or the skin around your nails and find that the repetitive action helps to relieve stress. It then becomes a habit. Skin picking disorder is considered a type of repetitive "self-grooming" behavior called "Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior" (BFRB).

Scabs often itch, but we know that scratching would tear them open, so we pick instead.  In order to prevent the itching, put first aid cream or hand lotion or on the scab and cover it with a Band-Aid.

It's itchy, a sign of healing and the scab behaves like a foreign body, unnatural on the surface of the wound. I advise against taking it off. You should wait for it to fall off by itself. That is something even I have a hard time doing, given that I have psoriasis.

    It's satisfying.
