You lose the job if your guilty secret is discovered.

Nobody has ever asked to see my diploma.  I have no idea if they've checked with the school.  I don't even know where my diploma is.

The employer  can ask you to prove you graduated. Always keep your HS diploma or GED certificate in a safe spot.

Back in 2008 when there was a recession many people lost their jobs. Some who had their jobs for decades.  When the jobs picked up again there was a surge of adults trying to get their GED because new employers wanted proof of HS diploma or GED .

We may see that again after this year.

You may find some employers don’t ask or verify a HS diploma.

You can lie and the employer probably won't bother checking.

Jobs requiring only a high school diploma usually aren't important enough for the employer to check.

They can contact the school unless records were lost.
