Are gallstones usually temporary?

    The pain is a stone coming down the duct often causing a spasm of the sphincter of Oddi.    You can certainly try changing your diet to help with the problem,  such as cutting way back on fats.    You could have just one stone or form a bunch of them you just have to wait and see over a period of time.

    It depends upon how you define the term.  They don't just go away on their own.  You can see a doctor to find out whether your best options are medication or surgery.  This is usually determined after an ultrasound to see how many stones there are and what size they are.  But if there are a few, small stones then medication may dissolve them.  Otherwise you may need surgery to remove the gall bladder.
