If I were you, I would just use "WordPad" its free with all Windows PCs.

I move to WPS. It's free.

It is a 'dimwit tax' like paying for a 'Mac' or an iPhone.   Use LibreOffice writer instead.

    You don't.

    Download Apache 'openoffice':

It's fully compatible with office (including word, excel, powerpoint, etc.) and is completely free.

You don't have to. Depending on what you are using it for, LibreOffice or WPS Office may work for you and are free.

You don't have to pay for Word every year.

They still sell the Microsoft Office software with a perpetual standalone license.  Buy it and use it forever.

But the Office 365 subscription can be a good bargain if you realize you get 1 TB of cloud storage with it. Carbonite was charging me more for online backup than a Microsoft Office 365.  So I canceled Carbonite and switched to 365.  Now I get online cloud backup and Office.

Here's a really good video from a former Microsoft Employee with various options on how to get free or discounted Microsoft Office.  Several good choices in it.

Sorry,  Bill Gates is out of the office right now, but I will have him return your call as soon as possible.

you don't have to. if you buy it outright, instead of subscribing to 365, then you will have it forever. Office 365 is their subscription service. it is cheaper, but you have to pay it every year, so it ends up being more expensive long term.

you can just buy Office 2019 Jome and Student, which is $150, and never have to pay again. just don't lose the account info you set it up with. if you ever need to reinstall, it will be VITAL!

Because you signed up for the subscription version of Office 365.

You can purchase the perpetual (non subscription) version here.  Naturally it's still not cheap, but they won't charge you every year for it.

Because they realised that people were stll using older versions and not buying new ones when they came out, now they no longer give you that option. Try using open office, it's free and works just as well.
