Uh...um...there was someone.... Oh yes, it was me. I had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) that resulted in double vision for seven weeks.

Sure. Whether there's mental impairment following a stroke depends entirely on what part(s) of the brain were damaged or destroyed. Some people become nearly infantile, so much brain function has been lost, while others fare pretty well and return to their normal selves--and plenty fall somewhere in between.
It's important for anyone who *might* have had a stroke to seek medical attention ASAP. There are drugs that impact outcome, but they need to be administered within the first several hours or they don't do anything.

I spent years working in physical rehab with post-CVA patients. I'd say that only applies to maybe 1 out of 20.
