That varies with the location; Africa is a large continent. In general, there are too many people for the economy to support. This leads to rely on "bush meat", which led to HIV and the AIDS epidemic. Especially in the Sahel, trees are cut for firewood faster than they can regenerate the environment. Hunters kill rhinos for their horns and elephants for their tusks and the populations can't tolerate the depredation. Further, as the killing is illegal the meat is wasted.
