If you need to fix the back fence, that is shared with a neigbor do we need to consult them?
There’s actually half a fence missing. We want to fix it so that it’s a full fence, to separate the neigbor. Do we need to ask our neighbor??

If it's your fence and it wasn't there when you purchased your home than you're responsible, an your neighbor isn't.

My advice is always ask your neighbour. Ignoring them on an issue like fences can
Just make them annoyed. But ask them if they mind and you might just make a
New friend😇 !

My son had to repair his backyard fence and this is what he did. He had a conversation, with the home owner behind him, and she agreed to pay for half of the fence.

Why not? It would be polite to do so, they are not strangers but your next door neighbours.
Sounds like you don't speak to them.

Asking would be polite. They may even help with the cost or labor.
Is it on your land, their land, or on the boundary? If it’s on your land, you can do it without asking. If it’s on their land, you can’t do anything without their permission. If it’s on the boundary, it’s probably best to ask first out of courtesy. They might even suggest splitting the bill...
As long as the fence is being built on your property, you don’t need to get permission from your neighbor. However, it would be polite to let them know your plans. They might actually help pay for it.
