No. It would never have occurred to me as a student. As a teacher, the idea terrifies me! Students have crushes, or look to teachers to fill the gaps their parents aren't filling. That's not what the teacher's role is supposed to be.

Yes,my English teacher in school for some reason paid more attention to me,she once dropped me home when I didn't have anyone to pick me up.She gave me extra lessons sometimes.She generally was quite informal and chatty with me,once telling me I was one of the best students.
