why do parents tell their young kids they love them but as they get older they tell them they love them less ?

Because they didnt really mean it, or know what love is. You probably grew up not to their liking or approval. Or its just them being angry and miserable.

They do you just dont know it or maybe you should say it to them and maybe help them and care them. Think about they help u in lfter now it your turn help them and say you love them 👍

I know of zero parents who say, "I love you less" as their kids get older.

English.  It's a thing.

Maybe you meant less often?   I don't know parents who do that either.   How often do you tell your parents that you love them?   Nevermind...no one cares.
