why does 3-methylcyclohexene elute before 1-methylcyclohexene in gas chromatography?

Update:

Why does this happen in terms of stationary phase / boiling / retention time?

substance eluted, 3-methylcyclohexene has a lower boiling point and therefore spends more time in the gas phase, resulting in fewer theoretical plates and a decreased retention time.
