Is it safe to drive 60 mph in the rain with a FWD automobile?

Depends how rainy. You gotta be careful not to hydroplane and also know that your stopping distance is going to be about 2x as long. If it's extremely rainy and I cant see I might just pull over and wait for it to stop raining. But if you can see fine, it's okay to do 50. Just be careful with large pooled up areas of water because you can lose traction and hydroplane on those.

FWD, RWD, AWD, whatever  -- nothing of that helps for stopping.

What matters is that you can stop in the distance you can see.  Heavier rain and you have to go slower.  And your tires.  3-season tires are better than all-season.  Sticky racing tires are better.  Thin treads is bad. 

I have been is rain where 20 mph was the maximum safe speed.
