Why do some Americans consider Russia a bigger threat to the USA than they consider China a bigger threat to the USA?

Russia isn't a powerful country anymore. Anyone who thinks it's still the bigger threat is stuck in the cold war era. China is an emerging power. China will surpass the USA as a superpower nation if America continues to ignore it. It's already advancing quickly such as having the capability of space travel and recently having its own moon mission, advancing its military, and is the second strongest economy. China is a more populous country than the USA and has the largest army in the world. Once they reach the point of having a more advanced army, the USA will be a goner. They have the upperhand in numbers. China will at that point be unstoppable and will easily take the South China Sea and annex neighboring territory. I'd like to know how Russia is a greater threat with its tiny economy and smaller population.

Russia has a big mouth and bluffs. They lost their world lead when they almost went bankrupt and the Soviet Union dissolved. However, they are regaining strength. As for China, fear them! They are out to conquer the world and have already started. COVID is germ warfare developed and used by them.

China is proceeding at its own speed. Because of its manufacturing ability and economic ability it's a world power. It has both an Army and Air Force as well as nukes and ICBM's. It has a regional navy, which isn't "Blue Water". As I wrote, it's proceeding at it's own speed. It's concentrating on long term economic power.

Russia has always been an aggressive threat to the world. It still has massive numbers of nuke armed ICBM's which have to be assumed are still in service.

China is 50 years behind the US in space tech

china has no major airline industry

china has no blue water navy

china doesn't have the energy capacity to meet its needs-- they must by energy from other countries

and just like Japan, when other countries control your energy-- you cannot be a super power

It might have a little bit to do with the HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS of mutually beneficial trade per year between the two nations.  And it might have a little bit do do with Russia's ongoing aggressive efforts to destabilize international alliances.  But that's just a guess.

China CAN'T be a threat - Donald Trump and his daughter had their crap manufactured in China for years. They still hold dozens of trademarks there - some of which were granted AFTER Trump took office.

The way he talked, Trump thought NATO was a bigger threat to the USA than either China or Russia.

the Threat China poses is mostly economic, there is little chance China is going to attack us or our allies militarily, Russia on the other hand is, has been, and is hell bent to attack our allies, and would love nothing more than to attack us if they could ever get us to a weak enough state where we wouldn't slaughter them in 5 minutes

Because the news media told them that Russia elected Trump.

Some Americans (blacks and sjws/leftists) only hate Russia because it's predominantly white.
