Is the universe conscious?

Pretend for a minute that no living beings existed in the entire universe. Nothing except the vastness of the universe. No animals, no conscious beings. Would the universe still exist if no one could perceive it? Kind of like the saying, “if a tree falls in a forest and no one was there to hear it, does it make a sound.” Yes obviously. But how did it form? Because of the Big Bang right? And it formed as a result of chemistry and physics. But if only living beings are conscious, how would the universe have formed? Quantum particles interact with each other. And I believe through this interaction is proof that quantum particles are conscious, and observe certain rules and patterns just like how all living beings breath follow certain patterns. All quantum particles have unique patterns that they follow because they are conscious enough at “some level” to interact with each other. Humans are made up of these quantum particles, which leads to biological makeup of humans, and various cells and other structures are just more complex forms of these quantum patterns and makeups. Cells interact with each other just the same, and thus may also be conscious. This consciousness spreads higher up the chain to larger more complete structures such as the heart and brain, and the function is the product of the smaller conscious cellular structures. Leading to an overall conscious being that is the product of all of the conscious organ systems which are the product of conscious cells, etc

Update:

I believe the entire universe is a complex structure that works as an entire unit, just like the human body. Quantum particles working together under certain laws based on their basic makeup and physical nature to regulate the universe as if it were a system

No empty = spirit into everything

Universe is just a place. A consciousness is a spirit or an invisible element. There is no place without spirits and no human being lives without the possession of the spirits on this earth. Spirits are separate elements. A human being during his/her lifetime is living with many spirits which have joined one by one since birth. They are knowledge, skills, feelings, emotions, interests and everything. Further there will be always some spirits with you on behalf of your parents, friends and relatives. Only these spirits make you remember them in a certain situations. All of these spirits are your consciousnesses and memories. Even thoughts are not your own. For example, when you want to take a decision on a subject, one after another the spirits think and you just listen, choose or reject the ideas which they transmit to your mind through your brain in the form of thoughts. Brain is just a media to connect the spirits to your mind. A mind is just a computer's mind. A mind is you. After the destruction of a computer completely you will not get its mind. The same is the case with the human beings.  A human being doesn't have a spiritual body. Soul is nothing but an energy needed for the functionality of a body. It is not a spirit or anything else. A body's functionality is based on the auto mechanism.  After death all spirits which accompanied a person quit and go to different places searching new bodies. No one lives after death in any form. All human beings are just robots made of flesh and bones and toys of the spirits for their games.

I often wonder this... I believe it is... I think one can tap into it and act upon it's will.

Obviously our Universe is not just consious but it is also helping us to achieve our goals in life. The Universe has created us for a reason. Every person is born and dies for a purpose set by our Universe. If the purpose is not fulfilled it passes on to another individual to fulfill so that truth prevails and lie diminishes itself

The world is an illusion, a play of the supreme consciousness of God.

The appearance of a person as a combination of the mind and the body is also an illusion, because man is more than the mere union of the two. A simple analysis of our perceptual experience establishes beyond doubt that the world is not what it appears to be and what we perceive through our senses is just a superficial reality.

Science tries to go beyond the visible universe and unravel the truth hidden in the depths of matter. But at times it gets caught in the appearances of things and layers of complexity that is part of our analytical approach. It is an illusion because it conceals truth and reveal itself differently each time we perceive it.

    CLUE IS HERE !!!!!!!!

Scientists fighting with themselves and others for their respective world view in their debates itself is a very good evidence of the illusion every person precives

    -----------------------

The world is an illusion not because it does not exist, but because it is not what it appears to be all the time. From an absolute perspective, the material universe is a temporary creation. It changes from moment to moment and is never the same. We cannot say we live in the same world each and every moment of our existence. The senses may take time to perceive the changes that happen in our environment, but change is what characterizes our world and our existence all the time.

The world is an illusion because it is not what it appears to be, it is never the same, it is an aggregation of matter and a mental construct, just like in a dream, that can be different things to different people according to their perception of things and states of mind. It is an irrefutable fact that the world is not the same all the time. We do not live in the same world all the time. Neither are we the same people all the time. We change from moment to moment. Our minds and bodies are transformed and renewed all the time. Many things die and regenerate in us each moment we live. We do not see all this because we do not pay particular attention to the happenings in us and around us or our perceptions are limited. We do not comprehend the truths concerning our existence clearly because we are subject to delusion which in turn is caused by ignorance. Therefore we believe in many things that are not true. We consider our world as permanent although it is impermanent and we live as if we are immortal although we see death and decay as a part of our existence.

An individual soul is subject to the illusion only so long as it is caught up in the material things. But the truth dawns and the soul remembers its true and essential nature, when the mind and the senses are withdrawn and the ego is subdued. The ego and the bonds formed by our desires form a veil of ignorance around the soul and keep the soul in bondage to the Nature. When these are removed through the practice of yoga, the soul is freed from the hold of Nature and become self-absorbed. This happens usually when an individual is shaken out of his mindsets and undergoes a paradigm shift in his awareness and thinking. The yogis call such experiences as samvegana, which is actually an intense churning of the mind when our worldviews and beliefs are shattered and we stand before the elemental forces of brute nature in a totally vulnerable and helpless condition.

Something similar to that happens to many at the time of their spiritual awakening. They shed their old beliefs and ways of living and awake into a new world of awareness and thinking in which they see things differently as the play of consciousness. When there is a spiritual awakening, we see the world differently. We become aware of a new reality. It is as if the world in which we lived had disappeared, like a dream and all the things to which we became attached and thought to be the source of our happiness and fulfillment were actually the cause of our suffering and inner imbalance. As we discard the worldly things and become centered in ourselves, our equation with the world undergoes a tremendous transformation. It is then we become aware of the play of maya, the apparent illusion caused by the movement and appearance of forms and things.

That's an interesting imaginative idea, but it seems highly unlikely to me. Conscious living organisms developed consciousness because it helped them to survive and perpetuate. Consciousness of one's surroundings can be helpful in avoiding dangers, and in finding food and mating opportunities. The universe doesn't need consciousness.

When you put a whole universe together with a lot of other universes you have a body of universes or as some would say, a human being.  A combination of many finite little intelligent particles each and every one of them.

I don't have this knowledge experientially, but I think that's a beautiful question you came up with and a good idea to pursue, because it expands your own consciousness.

We don't know if the universe is conscious, but my personal belief that we are one of the ways that the universe has achieved consciousness of itself.

There needs to be some type of brain to be conscious.
