Do sweet foods have a calming effect?

    Yes because when you eat them the happy hormones called endorphins are released which gives a temporary feeling of calm and relaxation.

    They are considered "comfort foods" and it releases endorphins that make you "feel better" however, it is short lived and ultimately bad for us. Same goes for carby foods (potatoes, pasta, bread, rice). All in moderation is ok, but ultimately not good for us. I recommend weaning off it and you will eventually feel good without it.

    Its more like a comfort food feel, spoiling yourself.

    Of course too much sugar is not good for you, but a little of what you fancy does you good [as the saying goes].

    Just give a couple of candy bars to a 5 year old and test his result.
