Why are the hospitals still open during a pandemic?

Because people still get sick and need help.  Surgeons are still doing surgeries.

Yes .. on the whole .. all things considered .. a hospital is probably the worst place to be if you are ill.

The reason for social distancing is to protect uninfected people from virus. In hospital many people are effected and there are huge preventive measures done for the people which are safe till now.

They are not gathering in crowds in the U.K. all patients are socially distanced.

There are other serious illnesses  apart from Covid.
