James Buchanan was the only president who was enlisted,  he was a private.   All the others were officers.

Buchanan was the only enlisted.  All the others were either officers or never served at all.

I believe William McKinley enlisted as a private.  But was promoted to an officer position.

Oliver W Holmes eventual Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was also enlisted.  But promoted to officer

You can rule out "Admiral Asthma" quid pro quo braindead Joe Biden from that list!!!! But I hear Nazi Pigosi was a nurse during the revolutionary war, the war of 1812 AND the civil war where she was saving (AND servicing) the confederate soldiers and trying to keep slavery alive and well like a good LIEberal left socialist demoCROOK!!!

Buchanan is the only NCO with military experience - he was a private in the war of 1812.
