What tree is this from? ?

Found in Western Sydney, Australia

They have a very sharp thorn and they're falling all over my work backyard

They look like the part of the pinecone a seed/nut would be attached to.  Are there any pines from the araucaria family nearby?  That's anything from a bunya to a monkey puzzle tree to a Norfolk Island pine.
