Why do many veterans become homeless?

I doubt that they're homeless in any greater proportion as the rest of the population.
As other posters have said - 99% of the guys panhandling with a sign are faking it.
It's part of the act.
Now, some young families of vets may end up getting services or couch surfing because housing costs are high in some areas. But, not too many street people are actually Vets.

The only people homeless in America are those who either choose to be homeless or those who are not capable of rational behavior like drunks, druggies and mentally ill. The federal and state government will put a roof over anyone's head for free. They have tried many times to get these folks into housing. They refuse to stay there. For every person in need who is a veteran there are five liars playing the system who never wore a uniform.

Cost of living increases. Lots of Veterans are not Retired Military, therefor they don't get a monthly retirement check. So they have to have a Job and if they have a medical problems that could be very hard.
The cost of renting is going up and up making it very hard to find a place to live.
Buying a house is out of the question unless you have a good job.
It's not just veterans having this problem, it is everyone.

no one knows if veterna become homelee or not
not a single group that supposedly coiunts homeless veterans, actually verifies the veteran status
they simple ask homelss are you a veteran, if they say yea, they count the,m as a veteran
and we already know homeless will lie and claim to be a veteran, hoping to get something extra

military is not a civilised way of life its orderly but dangerous and is a strain on the nervous system especially action there is a illness called PTS post traumatc stress this causes a reaction like homelessness hospitalisation psychiatric problems many who suffered in WW1 from shell shock became afraid to fight and were shot as cowards it a horrific reaction by the brain that just shuts down.Governments know all about it now and should take the responsibility of looking after them its the least a .nation can do.
