I see this on a regular basis for short-term rentals and it usually works out fine. One of them makes the arrangements, collects from the others, deals with the landlord, they all enjoy their short-term stay, and go home as friends.

If you mean to live together for an extended period, that would be a really bad idea.  Even with "rules" in place, there will be inevitable disputes or miscommunication and hurt feelings and nobody will be able to "get out of the deal" without unanimous consent of everyone else (including the landlord).

The only way this question can be answered is by you.

You know your friends and we don't. The pros are you get very cheap rent--the cons are you are renting with 6 other people. That's the bottom line. If you like them and can get along with them and you KNOW you can trust them, go for it. If you have any doubts at all, chances are very good they'll be proven out--so be CAREFUL about what you sign and for how long.

Personally, I don't know 6 other people--not even family members--whom i would want to live with in a contractual agreement like a lease. But you may. Remember--they say that you never really know a person until you live with them. Keep that in mind.

Habits have to MESH. One friend who spends 2 hours monopolizing a bathroom? One who will not do household chores? One who turns up music and/or TV programs loudly and all night long, or leaves things laying around for others to move?  One who is perpetually late paying bills--including rent? One who is manipulative or mean to others?  If you think you can trust people to be neat, tidy, responsible and considerate, think again. You probably can but only to a small extent--live with them and their true colors will show very soon. If you have 6 friends who are just like you--and respect your differences and are responsible and clean--then you are extremely LUCKY.

I wish you that luck--and hope it works out.

That depends on the country you live in and if it is legal or not in tenant/landlord laws.

There are far more cons than pros....... if you want to remain friends with any /all of these people don't live together as you certainly won't remain friends

Without a clear and signed roommate agreement about house work, sharing of bills, visitors, over nght bf/gf, cooking then it is a matter of time before there are issues.

Tency agreement, if you all sign one contract then you are each individually liable for 100% of the rent and if you sign individual tenancy  contracts if/when one leaves the landlord can install a stranger to replace them and no other tenant has any say about that

You won't be 7 close friends when you're done.

    Pros

    Reduced cost per person

    Cons

At least 3 of the 7 will no longer be friends within a year (probably less)

Renting with friends is not as cool as it sounds. It will end the friendships.

I can think of six.   Don't do it.   You will live to regret it, and it won't take long.   Too many cooks in the soup.

They probably won't be close friends a year down the line.   Half of them will have slept with one another, half will have annoyed the crap out of the others, and there will be at least one who ends up completely brokenhearted, jilted, depressed, pissed off, betrayed, vengeful or suicidal and everyone else will want to avoid this drama queen.

And that's not even considering the financial and legal ramifications of what happens when it goes south.
