Is it legal to buy a car from the junk yard before it's put in the compactor?

It would depend on specific laws in the location, but it is usually legal to purchase junk cars from a junk yard.

Some people do this because they use the junk car for parts.  Other people do it because they have found a junk car they want to restore.

The title might be slightly different due to it being considered "junk".  You might have to go through some extra inspections to have the car actually considered "street legal" again.  This also depends on laws specific to YOUR location and this might not apply to your location or situation.

Sure - why wouldn't it be?

If you plan on fixing and driving it, you will need to get a salvage title for it.

If the car is scheduled to be compacted, it is actually worth MORE as scrap metal than at a car.

That said, as long as the junk yard is willing to sell, it is perfectly legal to buy at whatever price they charge.

You won't be able to drive the vehicle, as SEVERAL essential components won't be there.

yes you can buy junk , as long as you have an engineers certificate to say you will carry out repairs to the standard else you can buy it for spare parts . thats where most repair shops get there parts from .

As long as they can give you a clean title to it, yes.

SURE as long as the title is CLEAN< there should be no problem! Lots of junk yards have rebuildable wrecks thet still have viable titles  I got one from ALL AUDI in New YORK and it was a great learning experience! LOVE those AUDI CARS

I’m sure it is. I doubt if it would be road legal ( it’s being scrapped for a reason), so you’d probably have to take it away on a trailer.

The exception would be cars being scrapped under a government scrap page scheme. Ironically most these cars have a useful life still, most being only 10 years old, but to appease the greens, governments encourage people to scrap perfectly serviceable cars, in exchange for a few thousand off an overpriced hybrid full of minerals mined by children.

Sure. Ask them. It won't be free. Basically you are buying a parts car.  If you own one of the same then the cost goes up as they price out the doors, fenders, hood and other parts.  Personally I would buy one still running off a private person. More good parts probably for lesser money...and you get the title.  The car has not been stamped salvage or rebuilt or anything yet.

Yes it's perfectly legal to buy the car. But most of the time the car only has a salvage title. And all that's good for is parts unless you take it through inspection and pay the price to have a title reissued which usually costs about $350
