Why would a teacher treat a janitor in this way?

Question

Says hi to the janitor when nobody is around and replies if the janitor says hi first when nobody else is in the classroom. However, when a colleague is around, doesn't say hi and ignores the janitor when she says hi. Keep in mind, the janitor only says hi to be polite and so that it's not awkward.

@Spock, it doesn't matter if a teacher has more status, they should remain humble about it. If they don't want to be seen saying hi to someone with less status, they're letting their ego get to their head. It's arrogant. Plus everyone has intrinsic value and a person's worth is more about their character than job status because you can be a terrible person and have a lot of status.

@blue, stop making stuff up. Also, I'm not 'forcing' anybody. I mentioned the fake behaviour of some people. Yes it's wrong to ignore someone because of their status or looks- it's shallow, arrogant and vain. It's not wrong to point this out.

I think that could be rude. Janitors are a important part of a school or any place for that matter.

Some teachers walk with their noses up in the air because they think they are better than their students and anyone that works with them that doesn't have a college education.

Because they are rude and not secure with themselves. The janitor should take solace knowing they are a better person than this teacher.

it's about superior prestige and place ... teachers are higher on the pecking order than janitors.  teacher might feel uncomfortable with this [many do] and when another teacher is around shows they know and observe the pecking order.
