Good places to look for wrecked cars?

So I’ve been searching for months for an fd rx7, but everyone wants $30,000 and up for it. And the prices might go higher, the longer I wait. I could get it right now, but I don’t want to be in debt. It’s my dream car. So I’m willing to look for at least a shell because I’ll keep it for the rest of life and build it over the years.

For under $10,000 you can get a running, driving car.

For less than that you can get one with a v8 swap.

For even less than that, you might be able to find a totalled "shell" that will cost much more than $30,000 after body work, paint, engine, transmission, drive line, etc...

The RX-7s are rare cars.  Prepare to pay up.  If you cannot afford it, go to plan B.  Get a 90s Celica.

I might suggest going to the RX7 forum and post what you are looking for. Check Crags list and face book market place.

FC's might be a bit easier to find. There was one on e-bay for 3000 that was a shell.

Carsforsale has a few under 10,000 dollars (one is a roadster for under 6,000).

That is a collectors car you drive a few times a year not a daily driver they were not known for reliability especially the rotary engine. Know they are beautiful looking cars but really it's a toy for rich people. And you can't afford it stop dreaming and get a reliable car that will make you money and not lose money.

Any involved in insurance claims and then written off as a total loss but able to be rebuilt will usually go to specialist auction.

At those auctions you are likely to be outbid by professional traders who buy specialist cars simply to break them for parts. Those traders will do that even if the damage is fairly minor because they’re aware how much more the car is worth as spare parts.

Your better bet is to join the various RX7 online forums. Keep an eye out for unfinished projects. Enthusiasts often allow their heart to rule their head, so will sell a damaged car privately for far less than they could have got from an asset-stripper just to try and ensure that car is restored by another enthusiast to running order.

But even then you’ll need to be very lucky: those enthusiasts usually sell those cars to people who they already know either personally or by proven reputation.

What you’re looking for is what’s known as a unicorn car. Ultimately if you want one then you’ll probably have to pay the going rate for one. Just be aware that unless you rarely make short trips then any Wankel-engined car is not suited as a daily driver unless you accept that the engine will need frequent rebuilds. Depending upon where you live, their tailpipe emissions are far higher than for piston engines of similar power output, and that can lead to financial penalties in cities like London, and many other major European towns and cities.

It's a high demand car that has been out of production for 20 years. The uniqueness of these cars means the collectors need them for parts as well. So good luck, be patient.

Saint Anthony is the finder of lost items.  He can help one to find numerous things.  It is good to honor him by reciting novenas and other prayers in his honor, and to remember him especially in his feast day of June 13.  Saint Anthony is a virgin-priest who died at only age 36 and was known for his eloquent preaching and for miraculously holding the Child Jesus.  He is known as Hammer of Heretics and is a Doctor of the Catholic Church.
